83 Year Old Hits Biggest Jumbo Jackpot At Sunset Station


LAS VEGAS – The early bird catches the worm, and sometimes the biggest Station Casinos Jumbo Jackpot prize ever awarded. On Friday, August 18, just after 6 am, Henderson resident Margaret Krause made history at Sunset Station when she hit the Jumbo Jackpot for $149,394, the most won since the $150,000 Jumbo Jackpot Bonus began in May 2005.

More than 1,500 Boarding Pass and Amigo Club members all across the Valley reaped the benefits, receiving $79,050 in free slot play. The 83-year-old retired landscaper had only been playing for about ten minutes on a penny keno machine when the Jumbo Jackpot music sounded and bells went off. “I kept hitting the button and wondering why I didn’t get my $50 (in free slot play),” said Margaret. “The guy next to me said ‘lady, you won’! Imagine a great-grandmother hitting the jackpot!”

With each pull of the handle, or push of the button, a slot machine begins the process of randomly selecting the next alignment of symbols. If a slot machine malfunctions it cannot complete the random selection process, and therefore reverts to a "tilt" mode. When a malfunction occurs some slot machine manufacturers, for engineering purposes, set the reels to stop briefly in a "jackpot" position. When this happens a player may see the reels momentarily stop at a jackpot alignment and then go into a slow spin. This often causes the player to believe a jackpot has been won. In recent years slot machine manufacturers have changed the "stop" location to other than a jackpot alignment to help prevent the misunderstanding.
